SEO or Google Ads in Morocco?

Wooden letter tiles spelling SEO

You want customers to find you on Google. There are two ways to get there: earn your place in the free results (SEO), or pay to appear at the top (Google Ads). They work very differently, and most businesses end up using both.

In short

Google Ads brings visitors within days and stops the day you stop paying. SEO takes months to build but keeps bringing visitors without paying per click. If you need customers now, start with ads. If you plan to be here in two years, start SEO now too.

How Google Ads works

You choose the searches you want to appear for, like "location voiture aéroport Marrakech" or "plombier Casablanca", write an ad, and set a budget. Each time someone clicks, you pay. Google decides the price through an auction based on competition and the quality of your ad and page.

  • Strengths: fast, precise (by city, time of day, device, language), easy to measure, easy to stop.
  • Weaknesses: you pay for every visitor, costs rise in competitive sectors, and results disappear when the budget ends.

How SEO works

SEO means making your site the best answer to what people search for. That covers the technical side (speed, structure, mobile), the content (pages that answer real questions in French, English or Arabic) and your reputation (other sites and directories mentioning you, Google reviews).

  • Strengths: no cost per click, builds trust (many people skip ads), and keeps working for years.
  • Weaknesses: slow to start, usually three to six months before clear results, and no one can guarantee a position.

Which one fits your situation

Start with Google Ads if…

  • You just opened, or just launched a new service, and need customers quickly.
  • Your business is seasonal (tourism, events, back to school) and timing matters.
  • People search for exactly what you sell, with clear buying intent.
  • You want to test which offers and cities work before investing long-term.

Prioritise SEO if…

  • Your customers research before buying and read before they call.
  • Clicks in your sector are expensive.
  • You serve several cities, and a page for each one can rank for local searches.
  • You plan to grow over years, not weeks.

The approach that usually works best

  1. Fix the website first. Ads and SEO both send people to your site. If it's slow or unclear, you pay for visitors who leave. Run Google PageSpeed Insights to see where you stand.
  2. Start a focused Google Ads campaign on your most profitable searches, with a landing page built for it and tracking on calls, forms and WhatsApp.
  3. Build SEO in parallel: technical fixes, a page per service and city, your Google Business Profile, and content that answers what customers ask.
  4. Use the ads data to guide SEO. The searches that bring paying customers through ads are the ones worth ranking for.
  5. Rebalance every few months. As free traffic grows, you can reduce ad spend on searches where you already rank well.

And AI search?

More and more people ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Overviews instead of clicking through results. These assistants pick businesses that are clearly described and mentioned across the web. Good SEO is the foundation, and GEO (generative engine optimisation) builds on it. We explain it on our SEO & GEO page.

Our take

It's rarely SEO or Ads. It's which one first, and how much of each. Ads pay the bills while SEO builds an asset you own. What matters most is measuring real results: calls, forms, WhatsApp messages and sales, not clicks or impressions.
